Nikolai Wladimirowitsch Adlerberg
Nikolai Wladimirowitsch Adlerberg ( Russian: Николай Владимирович Адлерберг ; born May 19, 1819 in Saint Petersburg , † December 25, 1892 in Munich ) was a count , councilor of state, court chamberlain, governor of Taganrog , Simferopol and administrator of Finland .
Life
Adlerberg was born into a Swedish aristocratic family. His father, Vladimir Fyodorowitsch Adlerberg , had friendly relations with Tsar Nikolai I , from 1852 to 1870 he was president of the Russian Imperial Post Office and introduced the first Russian postage stamps .
Nikolai Adlerberg graduated from the page school and took part in the Russo-Caucasian War and the war in Hungary . In 1845 he traveled to Greece , Egypt and Palestine , which he described in his book “From Rome to Jerusalem” (“Из Рима в Иерусалим”) (1853). In 1852 Adlerberg resigned his office and a year later was appointed governor of the southern Russian city of Taganrog , but in the spring of 1854, given the looming Crimean War , he was supposed to hand over his position to General Georgi Tolstoy .
In 1855 he married Amalie von Lerchenfeld (1808–1888), b. Stargard, which was raised to "von Sternfeld" in 1823 by the Grand Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt. Amalie was in her first, widowed marriage, married to Paul Alexander von Krüdener . Her portrait hangs in the beauty gallery in Nymphenburg Palace .
Adlerberg served as the mayor of Simferopol, later as the administrator of the Tavritscheskaja Gubernija governorate , and finally, from 1866 to 1881, as governor general of Finland . As a big theater friend he had in 1868 in Helsinki build a Russian theater, which in 1879 by the Czar I. Alexander was called Alexander Theater.
