Nikolaus Halsdorfer

Nicholas Halsdorfer (* 18th January 1911 in Királykegye , German  Königsgnad , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † 12. November 1988 in Achern ) was a romania German painter, printmaker and teacher.

Life

Youth and Studies

Nikolaus Halsdorfer was born as the son of Wilhelm Halsdorfer and his wife Barbara, née Wandratschek, in the town of Königsgnad, which today belongs to Romania.

He attended elementary schools in Königsgnad and Moritzfeld and from 1923 to 1925 the middle school in Detta . He was a high school student from 1925 to 1931 in the Timișoara secondary school . This was followed by his university studies at the art academies in Cluj-Napoca , Timișoara and Bucharest and a pedagogical seminar and the state examination at the University of Bucharest.

career

From 1936 to 1944 Nikolaus Halsdorfer was an art teacher at the German-speaking educational institution Banatia . However, this activity was interrupted by his front-line deployment in Stalingrad . During the beginning of the occupation of Romania by the Soviet troops in autumn 1944, he fled to Germany. From 1944 to 1947 he lived in a few refugee camps until he became a draftsman for the French army in Rastatt . From 1954 he worked as a student and later as senior teacher for art education at the Lender home school in Sasbach until he retired in 1974.

Works, style and exhibitions

Nikolaus Halsdorfer turned to modern art with his works . Many of his works show some cubist forms. With some of his paintings he processed the flight of the Banat Swabians from the Soviet troops to Germany.

Some exhibitions of his works took place in Baden-Württemberg in particular .
