Nikolaus Hausmann

Nikolaus Hausmann , also Nicolaus Hausmann (* 1478/79 in Freiberg ; † November 6, 1538 ibid) was a German Protestant preacher in Saxony and a reformer in the Principality of Anhalt-Dessau .

Life

Hausmann studied in Leipzig and received his master's degree in 1503 . He was then ordained a priest in Altenburg and first worked as such in Schneeberg , where he joined Martin Luther around 1519 . In 1521 he moved to the St. Marien Church in Zwickau , where he was involved in heavy fighting with the Zwickau prophets . Since he was interested in reforms in worship services, Luther dedicated his "Formula missae et communionis" to him. Luther did not agree to Hausmann's plan to hold a consultation on questions of worship, but continued to exchange ideas with him about the German Mass and an evangelical catechism . To reform the church system, Hausmann wrote the text "Muster undschlag". His part in the visitation in Electoral Saxony, for which he submitted proposals to the elector as early as 1525, is particularly important. He expected the visitation to remedy the torn grievances. Luther gladly took up his practical suggestions after the Peasants' War .

On Luther's recommendation, Hausmann came to Dessau in 1532 and influenced the implementation of the Reformation in Anhalt . The church ordinance drafted by him remained unprinted. After five years he was appointed superintendent in his hometown Freiberg. In his inaugural sermon as the first Lutheran preacher in Freiberg Cathedral , he was on the tulip pulpit from Schlage stirred and died soon after.

Hausmann was unmarried. Generally respected, he was considered a preacher who not only taught, but above all strived for a Christian life. He was praised as the father of the poor.

Martin Luther confessed from Hausmann that he would have liked to have him around at all times. The two were in close correspondence, of which more than 100 letters have survived.
