Theodor von Kolde

Theodor Kolde , from 1910 Knight von Kolde , (born May 6, 1850 in Friedland in Upper Silesia , † October 21, 1913 in Erlangen ) was a German church historian and Luther researcher.

Life

As the son of pastor Carl Kolde, Kolde attended high school in Oels . After graduating from high school, he studied Protestant theology at the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University and the University of Leipzig . Hermann Reuter was one of his teachers . He devoted his scientific work primarily to the history of the Reformation . He did his doctorate at the Friedrichs University in Halle on the life of Chancellor Gregor Brück . He completed his habilitation in 1876 at the Philipps University of Marburg on Martin Luther's position on the church and council. In the Leipziger Landsmannschaft Plavia since 1872 , he confessed to the split off Corps in 1877 . His work on Johann von Staupitz and the so-called Analecta Lutherana are famous . He was extremely critical of the Weimar Luther edition . From 1884 to 1893 he worked on a two-volume biography of Luther. In 1880 he became full professor for historical theology at the University of Erlangen . He also taught in addition to the history of the Reformation missiology . He is regarded as the initiator of Bavarian church history research, founded an association for this purpose and published articles on Bavarian church history from 1895 onwards . In addition, he wrote several biography articles for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie , published by the Historical Commission at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In 1890/91 he was rector of the University of Erlangen and a long-time member of its administrative committee. In 1910 he was ennobled by Luitpold of Bavaria .

In 1881 Kolde married the Englishwoman Anna Piper from Ledbury ( Herefordshire ) in Hamburg. The marriage resulted in four sons and three daughters. Theodor Kolde was the cousin of the architect Max Kolde .
