Hermann Reuter (born August 30, 1817 in Hildesheim , † September 17, 1889 in Göttingen ) was a Lutheran theologian , church historian and abbot of the Bursfelde monastery .

In 1843 Hermann Reuter became a private lecturer at the University of Berlin before he went to the University of Breslau as an associate professor in 1852 . In 1855 Reuter was appointed full professor at the University of Greifswald , in 1866 again to Breslau, where he also became consistorial councilor in 1869, and finally in 1876 to the University of Göttingen .

In 1881, Hermann Reuter, succeeding Ludwig Schöberlein, was also appointed abbot of the Bursfelde monastery in the Weserbergland .

At least two of his students, namely Theodor Brieger and Paul Tschackert , obtained their theological exams - Tschackert already held a private lectureship - in Leipzig from the historian Georg Voigt the philosophical doctorate. Both achieved lasting importance. Brieger founded the seminar on church history at the theological faculty in Leipzig, he went public mainly with works on the history of the Reformation, while Tschackert, in addition to works on church history, also presented sources and archival publications, in particular Prussian archives on Prussian history during the Reformation .
