Nikolaus Hensel

Nikolaus Bernhard Hensel (born October 8, 1943 in Templin ) is a German lawyer and former notary .

He is Secretary General of the German Friends of Tel Aviv University , which also made him an Honorary Senator.

In 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in natural sciences by the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Since 2004 he has been a member of the board of trustees of the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS), and since 2006 a member of the board of the German Film Institute and the German Film Museum .

Since 2009 he has been actively involved in setting up the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt .

He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Kinderhilfestiftung eV and partner of the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt and the National Gallery in Berlin.

In 2015 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit in the Imperial Hall of the Frankfurter Römers , after he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class in 2006.
