Nikolaus Hermann von Ketteler

Nikolaus Hermann von Ketteler (* May 12, 1676 in the Diocese of Osnabrück ; † May 23, 1737 ) was canon and vicar general in Münster .

Life

Nikolaus Hermann, Baron von Ketteler zu Harkotten from Bollen, was a son of Johann von Ketteler zu Harkotten ex Bollen and Theodora Catharina von Schade zu Salvey. He attended the Jesuit grammar school in Münster and, like his brother Goswin Conrad, studied theology from 1694 to 1701 as an alumne at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome . There he was ordained a deacon . In 1699, through papal commission, he obtained a prebende as cathedral capitular in Münster (1699 revolt , 1707 emancipation ) , who had been dealt with by the death of Wilhelm von Fürstenberg .

In 1710, after the death of the auxiliary bishop and vicar general Johann Peter von Quentell, at the request of the cathedral chapter, Prince-Bishop Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich appointed him vicar general in Münster. On March 24, 1711 he was ordained a priest in Neuhaus . In 1716 he became the owner of the Oblegium Gronover and in 1722 the Obödienz Ostenfelde. After the death of Johann Karl von Droste-Senden, he received the vacant assessor at the Landespfennigkammer in 1723 , and the archdeaconate in Warendorf in 1724 (episcopal confirmation 1729). In the electoral prince-bishop of 1718/19 he was named as a candidate. In 1719, after the death of Prince-Bishop Franz Arnold, he was appointed vicar-capitular and from 1719 to 1737 he was again vicar-general of Prince-Bishop Clemens August of Bavaria . He was the elector's secret councilor and war councilor and provost of Wildeshausen .

Nikolaus Hermann von Ketteler is the builder of the so-called Ketteler's double curia on Domplatz in Münster .
