Nicholas II (Tecklenburg)
Nicholas II of Tecklenburg († 1426 ) was Count of Tecklenburg from 1388 to 1426 .
Life
Nicholas II was the only son of Otto VI. von Tecklenburg and Adelheid zur Lippe, daughter of the nobleman Bernhard V. zur Lippe .
Nicholas II led as many feuds as his father Otto VI. In 1388 he followed him as Count of Tecklenburg. In his feuds, he asserted the rule of Rheda against Lippe and in return ceded areas of Lippe. In 1400 the bishops of Münster and Osnabrück joined forces and fought against Nikolaus II. He lost all northern areas such as Cloppenburg , Friesoythe and Bevergern to Bishop Otto von Münster . In the Lower County of Lingen he lost half of the parish of Plantlünne and Schapen and had to cede the east, Stader and Speller woods. From now on, the county of Tecklenburg only extended over the old area of Tecklenburg-Lingen, i.e. Ibbenbueren , Iburg , Lienen , Ladbergen and other places. The county was now encircled by the two dioceses.
Nikolaus carried out other feuds with the bishops of Münster and Osnabrück and the Counts of Hoya . He also supported his cousin Nikolaus , who was Archbishop of Bremen , against East Frisia. In 1426 they lost the Battle of Detern .
Marriage and offspring
Nikolaus II married Anna von Moers († 1430), daughter of Count Friedrich III. from Moers . From this marriage came
- Otto VII. († 1450), Count of Tecklenburg
- Adelheid († 1428), married to Wilhelm von Berg , Count of Ravensberg
