NiKRASA components + loading process

NiKRASA is a vertical loading system for combined rail traffic , which enables the transhipment process from non-craneable semi-trailers (Nikrasa) to standard pocket wagons of type T300 and T5 in standard terminals . The new handling system was developed in 2014 by a project team consisting of TX Logistik (TXL), Bayernhafen and the Prien Logistics Competence Center (LKZ Prien GmbH) .

history

The NiKRASA system, the patent of which is held by the project group from TX Logistik, Bayernhafen and the LKZ Prien, was put into operation in September 2014 after a four-year development period. Marketing is carried out exclusively by TX Logistik, which also financed the system development. Version 2.0 of NiKRASA has been available since mid-2017, which is characterized by a much lighter transport platform and adaptation to a greater variety of trailer types (including mega-trailers).

Handling system

The NiKRASA system consists of the terminal platform and the transport platform, which must also be present in a normal transshipment terminal.

The terminal platform is on the floor and is used to accommodate the transport platform. The truck drives to the terminal platform for transhipment and positions the trailer in the middle of the transport platform. There are gripping edges for the handling equipment. For transshipment and transport on the pocket wagon, the trailer and the transport platform form a unit that is transported together and thus behaves like a cranable trailer. The transport platform is positioned on the pocket wagon so that the kingpin of the trailer fits exactly into the support frame.

Advantages and disadvantages

advantages
  • The handling is carried out in the same way as previous standards (terminal, handling equipment, pocket wagon) and is comparable to that of a craneable trailer
  • Loading of non-cranable semitrailers - their market share is currently 85-90% (of approx. 1.5 million semitrailers in Europe, only 10% are codified, i.e. cranable)
  • basically every type of trailer can be loaded with NiKRASA (classic tautliner and box / frigo trailers but also tank and bulk trailers)
  • Increased payload (up to 4 tons) compared to pure road transport.
  • Conversion costs or the purchase of new intermodal trailers are not necessary
  • Can be used quickly and flexibly in almost any terminal
  • Increase in the utilization of intermodal trains by taking additional NiKRASA trailers
  • NiKRASA can remain in the car for unpaired traffic. In this case, cranable semi-trailers as well as containers and swap bodies can be loaded.
disadvantage
  • The transport platform reduces the payload of the transport wagon by up to 2.275 tons.
  • Little additional time required 2–3 minutes per transshipment compared to 1–2 for a codified / craneable semi-trailer
