The Nilgiri North (Engl. Nilgiri North ) is a mountain in the Himalayas in Nepal .
The Nilgiri North has a height of 7061 m and is located in the west of the Annapurna Himal massif . It forms the highest and northernmost elevation of a mountain group, the Nilgiri Himal . The place Jomsom is 10 km north of the Nilgiri North in the Kali Gandaki Gorge . A ridge leads east to Tilicho ( 7134 m ), 6.68 km away . South of the Nilgiri North rises the central peak of the Nilgiri Himal ( Nilgiri Central ) with a height of 6940 m and further south of the Nilgiri South ( 6839 m ).
Ascent history
The Nilgiri Nord was first climbed as part of a Dutch expedition in 1962. The French Lionel Terray , the three van Lookeren Campagne brothers and Sirdar Wongdhi reached the summit on October 19, 1962. The ascent route led over the north face and the west ridge to the summit.
