The Nilgiri South (Engl. Nilgiri South ) is a mountain in the Himalayas in Nepal .
The Nilgiri South has an altitude of 6839 m and is located in the west of the Annapurna Himal massif . It forms the southernmost elevation of a mountain group, the Nilgiri Himal . The Kali Gandaki Gorge runs west of the Nilgiri South. A mountain ridge leads north to Nilgiri Nord ( 7061 m ), 4.14 km away . In between lies the central peak of the Nilgiri Himal ( Nilgiri Central ) with an altitude of 6940 m .
Ascent history
The Nilgiri South was first climbed by a Japanese mountaineering group ( Shinshu University Expedition ) in 1978. All expedition participants (Taichi Fujimatsu, Hideki Yoshida, Nobuhito Morota, Seiji Tanaka, Yoshiaki Kato and Kazuo Mitsui) climbed the summit on October 10, 1978. The ascent route led over the Miristi glacier and the east ridge to the summit.
The first ascent over the south face was made in October 2015 by alpinists Gerhard Fiegl , Hansjörg Auer and Alexander Blümel.
