Neverland is the second studio album by the German rapper RIN , which was released on December 6, 2019 on the Division Recordings label.

background

Neverland is his second solo album after his release EROS (2017). The album was announced on September 27, 2019 with the release of the single Fabergé .

The title of the album is an allusion to the film Hook (1991) by Steven Spielberg and the story of the fairy tale character Peter Pan told in it . In the film, Peter Pan has gotten too old and forgot how to fly and that he was ever in Never Land . RIN stated in an interview that he wanted “to create this one album for [his] generation and capture that moment while [he is] just young enough to fly. This whole struggle with yourself, with life and growing up was the theme of the album. "

Neverland is the first RIN record to be supported by feature guests . The song Keine Liebe was created together with rapper Bausa , who - like RIN - comes from the town of Bietigheim-Bissingen , which has almost 40,000 inhabitants . The Austrian band Bilderbuch as well as the rappers Sido and Luciano also appear on the album. RIN explained that he chose his features on Neverland very consciously: “I can now stand here at this point and say that this was the work of my team and me. I only wanted to make features at a point where you know who I am and where I have a certain status. Now I can work with people because I want to and not because I need their reach. "

Since the two producers Alexis Troy and Minhtendo, who have been working with RIN for a long time, did not have their own producer tags, RIN wanted to change this with the new album Neverland . A producer tag is a short sound or slogan that is played at the beginning of a song to show which producer made the composition. Minhtendo now appears on all of the tracks he has produced with the slogan “Minh-Minh-Minh makes the hits!”, Which was actually a spontaneous joke during a recording. Instead, Alexis Troy chose the quote "This is the world that you know." From the 1999 film Matrix .

In addition to a version on CD, the album was also released on record . In addition, RIN was able to win the sporting goods manufacturer Nike as a collaboration partner for a deluxe box , which receives a t-shirt, a poster and a bracelet.

Cover design

The cover of the album was designed by Michael Clasen and the studio Obby & Jappari. In the background, RIN's youth room in Bietigheim-Bissingen can be seen with various posters on the wall. An outstretched hand holding a globe can be seen in the foreground. The globe is enclosed by a Rolex and a letter bracelet with the inscription NEVER LAND.

production

The main producers of the album are Alexis Troy and RIN themselves. The producers Minhtendo and Reezy, good friends of RIN, were also involved in many tracks. The track Alien was produced almost entirely by RIN himself; Minhtendo only contributed the bass track. The tracks are consistently very percussion heavy with a special focus on the kick drum .
