Nina Nikolayevna Gurina

Nina Nikolaevna Gurina ( Russian Нина Николаевна Гурина * June 4 . Jul / 17th June  1909 greg. In Rostov ; † 9. September 1990 in Leningrad ) was a Russian - Soviet prehistorian .

Life

Gurina studied at the Moscow University (MGU) in the historical faculty (IstFak) with graduation in 1934.

Gurina was a research assistant at the museums in Kandalaksha and Petrozavodsk . As early as 1931, she worked on the Kola peninsula , Karelia and the coast of the White Sea . In 1946 she became the candidate PhD of historical sciences after the Moscow Institute of History of Material Culture of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) , the aspirant had graduated.

From 1946 Gurina led the Kola expedition of the Leningrad Institute of Archeology of the AN-SSSR (until 1985). Under her leadership, around 400 sites from the Stone Age and the Early Metal Age were discovered and examined. This included settlement sites, burial grounds , rock art , petroglyphs and labyrinths that she associated with fishing and the beliefs of fishermen. In particular, she carried out the excavations of the settlements of Oleneostrov and Mayak II . The finds there came to the Murmansk Oblast Museum. She also examined the petroglyphs of Tschalmny-Warre on the Ponoi . In 1961 she received her doctorate in history. She researched the spiritual culture of the people of that time and their migration to the Kola Peninsula.

Gurina also carried out excavations in the Volga region (expedition leader 1955–1983) and in Siberia . 1976–1981 she headed the Leningrad Department of the Moscow Institute of Archeology of the AN-SSSR as successor to Vasily Prokofievich Lyubin . Her successor was Vadim Mikhailovich Masson .
