You don't love me is a song by the German rapper Sabrina Setlur from 1997. It was released as the first single from her second studio album, Die neue S-Klasse . Setlur wrote it together with the track's producers, Moses Pelham and Martin Haas.
Music and lyrics
You don't love me is a hip hop song with rap verses on a hard hip hop beat and a sung chorus . Setlur raps the verses with a very hard and aggressive tone and the chorus is sung in a R&B style . During the course of the title one also often hears Adlibs, which are sung by the choir-like refrain voice. Lyrically, the song is about a partner who doesn't love the other and has hurt him. Setlur raps quite disrespectfully towards this partner and also wishes him death in her lines ( I couldn't care less whether you are dead or alive, whether you are healthy or sick ). The text also tells of the partner's too big ego ( because today you are the coolest man above the relaxed super duper Chabo ) and that Setlur does not wish him any good ( I wish you a shitty conscience with a remorse for goodbye, a soul full of cracks and that you learn to miss me )
Publication and music video
The single was released on March 3, 1997 as the first extraction from Setlur's second studio album, The New S-Class , which was released on March 21, 1997. The album cover, which shows Setlur's face in close-up, was chosen as the cover.
The music video for the title, which was staged by Philipp Stölzl , shows Setlur in different settings in two different outfits. In the opening scene she can be seen running down a corridor towards the camera. Apart from her, the floor and the walls, you can't see anything, as only light can be seen from her direction, which is why she can only be recognized as a silhouette at first. When she starts rapping, Setlur can be seen standing in a small, prison cell-like room. Later, before the first chorus begins, she is seen smashing a male glass figure with a baseball bat. The Setlur running in the corridor is also a recurring image. Further scenes show a wash basin that turns red with red liquid and how Setlur writes on the wall with this one You don't love me .

German R&B singer Ado Kojo recorded a song of the same name in 2015, where the chorus of the original was sampled. The YouTuber at the time and today's singer and rapper Shirin David can be heard as a feature .
Music and lyrics
In contrast to the original, the Ado Kojo version of the song is not a rap song, but an R&B track with sung stanzas to the sung chorus, which was taken from the original, but was sung again by Kojo and David. It was written in A flat minor at 89 beats per minute. Kojo sings the first two stanzas while David sings the third stanza and Kojo supports the chorus. What differs from the original is that the title tells the story from two perspectives: Ado Kojo sings from one perspective, David from the other. Another difference is that it is less hateful and more painful than Setlur's original version. It's still about a lost love ( your heart frozen, our love long lost ), but also about mistakes that are admitted ( we argued, discussed - called you a bitch, eh , shame 'Seeing me in the eye day after day, babe - damn it, it was a one night stand ). Violence in the relationship is also discussed ( you hit me, yelled at me, humiliated me, but I forgave you, eh ).
Publication and music video
Shirin David announced the single in a YouTube video that was released a few days earlier and is no longer online for January 9, 2015. It was released along with a music video that went online on David's channel.
The music video, which was produced by Like-Mir-Media and Smacktalk , shows the skyline of a city at the beginning. When Kojo starts to sing, you can see him and David sitting on a coach while David, disinterested, files his nails. Further scenes show the two of them shopping for clothes together and standing close together in front of a white background. The basin motif from the original music video has been adopted. In addition, David uses lipstick to paint a heart on a mirror, which can also be seen as an homage to the original video, with Setlur writing on a wall with the red liquid. In other scenes you can also see David walking with a lot of tote bags of expensive brands like Chanel and Kojo on dollar bills.
Reception and success
You don't love me received mostly positive reviews. David's voices and surprisingly high vocal talent were often praised. Occasionally it was criticized that it did not match the original or that it was negatively affected. Just a few hours after its release, the title was number one on the iTunes download charts. In the official single charts , Du Liebst mich couldn't be placed in the top 10 in Austria and Germany. In Switzerland it was only enough for 20th place on the charts. The music video has had over 44 million views to date (as of July 2020).
