Shirin David (born April 11, 1995 in Hamburg ; bourgeois Barbara Shirin Davidavičius ) is a German rapper , singer and former web video producer .

life and career

childhood

Barbara Shirin Davidavičius was born in Hamburg in 1995 as the daughter of Erika Davidavičius from Lithuania and an Iranian father. She spent the first years of her life in Lithuania. She began to play the piano at a young age, followed by the violin and oboe . At the same time she took dance lessons at the Hamburg Ballet School . She then completed training at the Youth Opera Academy in singing, acting and dance. She then took part in various productions at the Hamburg State Opera . “What dreams do we have…?” Was an installation by the Hamburg art network geschichtenwerft in 2012 in the gallery of Shirin Davidavičius' mother on Hansaplatz , in which mother Erika and daughter shared information about their lives.

2014–2018: Career start on YouTube and DSDS

In March 2014 Davidavičius opened a YouTube channel under the name Shirin David in Cologne . In the ranking of the most subscribed channels in Germany , she is in the top 50 with over 2.6 million subscribers. In 2015 she and Ado Kojo reached the top 10 of the German and Austrian groups with Du liebst mich nicht , a cover version of the song of the same name by Sabrina Setlur Single charts . In February 2016 it was announced that she had terminated her contract with the TubeOne Networks network , with which she had successfully built her YouTube channel. In 2017 she was a juror in the 14th season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar . In 2018 she moved to Berlin.

Since 2019: Debut album Supersize

In January 2019 she released the first single Orbit from her debut album Supersize as Shirin David . Her second single, Gib Ihm , was released in February and reached number one in the German single charts. Ice followed in April, you will fly with me in May , On Off in collaboration with Maître Gims in June and Brillis in August . In September, Nur mit dir , a collaboration with Xavier Naidoo and her debut album, Supersize, was released . The album reached number one in the German album charts. David was the first German hip-hop musician to do this.

Shirin David was originally heard as a hook singer on the first version of the song Affalterbach by rapper Shindy , which was released in March 2019 . However, she never gave permission to publish the recorded lines. According to her, a song was originally planned, but the project was discontinued after the two artists could not agree on the design of the music video. The singer then had the song blocked. A revised version of the song, with a different hook singer, was subsequently released. On her Instagram page, Shirin David explained her point of view, including that Shindy treated her with condescension with sentences such as "All right, Beyoncé, you better stay at home you spinner". In response to this post, Shindy made fun of her sales figures on the Late Night Berlin show.

After she had already brought out the perfume Created by the Community in cooperation with the drugstore dm in April 2017, which according to its own information should have sold 550,000 pieces, the perfume Created by Shirin appeared in October 2019 in cooperation with Douglas .

In November 2019 Shirin David received a Bambi in the Shooting Star category , with which she was honored for her "meteoric rise and her special feeling for content that inspires young people". Her single 90-60-111 was released in April 2020 , which was Shirin David's second number one single in Germany and the first number one single in Austria .

In May 2020 she was heard on the single Conan x Xenia des Rappers Haftbefehl . Also in May, the second single from their second album, Hoes Up G's Down, was released. The filming of a related music video in a Berlin villa was terminated by the Berlin police and 72 people present were reported for violating the contact restrictions issued due to the COVID-19 pandemic . On July 16, 2020 the single Never Know by rapper Luciano was released , on which David can be heard as a feature.

criticism

In the spring of 2017, Shirin David published a video with YouTuber and rapper Mert , who had previously been accused of homophobia due to another video . After numerous criticisms, Shirin David's video was deleted.

In the video for her song On Off , which was released in 2019, Shirin David shows herself with dark make-up, which the music journalist Helen Fares , who works in the hip-hop industry, accused of using blackfacing . She also supported Gims, a rapper who used to be openly homophobic, who explicitly called for violence against gays.
