Only with you is a duet between the German rapper and singer Shirin David and the German soul singer Xavier Naidoo from 2019. It was released as the seventh and final single, together with David's debut album Supersize . It was written by David along with Naidoo, Chima Ede and the track's producer, FNSHRS.
Music and lyrics
Only with you is a pop - R & B ballad, which was written in G minor, and has 135 beats per minute. The first stanza is sung by David, the second by Naidoo. In the chorus and the bridge both to be heard together. Only with you is a classic love ballad that tells of longing, solidarity and hurdles in life. Both artists sing very soulfully and gently. The use of the bottle symbol in the lyrics is interesting: David sings in the first stanza I take the last sip of the bottle of longing , Xavier Naidoo sings in the second stanza that he opened a bottle of homesickness after our conversation . Creation and publication
David wrote Just with You again with their producers FNSHRS. and the rapper Chima Ede , especially for his own part, Xavier Naidoo also worked on the text. The title itself was released on September 20, 2019 as the last single release together with their debut album Supersize . David published the accompanying music video two days later on her YouTube channel. By June 2020 this had over 11 million views. It is no longer online.
Music video
The music video for Nur mit dich was again produced under the direction of PLUG and shot in Marbella , Spain . It includes both individual scenes by both artists as well as joint recordings. You can see David and Naidoo, dressed in white, standing in front of two white cars. Other scenes show David in a bed, lying on a bed with a naked cat, lolling with his clothes in water or standing in the desert, while Naidoo is shown driving a car in the dark or standing in front of his car. In other scenes, David was filmed with a white tiger cub and white peacocks.
criticism
The title Just with Yourself received positive reviews. Above all, the emotions, harmonious voices and the text received praise. The catchy character and the summer mood that the title delivers were often praised. However, David received negative criticism due to the selection of Naidoo as a feature partner, as he has often spread homophobic, racist and conspiracy theoretic statements in songs and on other occasions in the past.
Charts and chart placements
Only with you reached number eight in the German single charts and stayed in the charts for eight weeks and in the top 10 for one week. In Austria , the single reached position 13 and stayed in the charts for four weeks. In Switzerland , Nur mit dir achieved its best chart listing in three chart weeks with eleventh place.
For Naidoo as an interpreter, this is the 57th chart success in Germany, the 44th in Austria and the 37th in Switzerland. It is his 14th top 10 success in Germany . David reached the single charts in all DA-CH countries for the eighth time with Nur mit dich . In Germany, it is also her eighth top 10 success.
