Conan x Xenia is a rap title by the German rapper Haftbefehl and rapper Shirin David from 2020. It was released on May 8, 2020 as the third single and first feature of the sixth studio album The White Album Haftbefehl.
Music and lyrics
Conan x Xenia is a rap song with a hard beat produced by Bazzazian with a metallic sounding piano melody as the basis. It was written in D minor at 148 beats per minute. Arrest warrant stays true to his rap style, more shouted than spoken, and raps the first verse, the refrain and the C-part. The second stanza raps David using a more spoken, if aggressive, tone. Conan x Xenia is also quite aggressive lyrically . Arrest warrant also raps that he is young , wild and anti-social . In her rap part, David relies, among other things, on homages to arrest warrant by reinterpreting old lines from him and from her perspective. For example, she raps Chabos know who your Mami is (allusion to Chabos know who Babo is ) and German rap, I lock the hookers in the zoo (allusion to Lass die Affen aus'm Zoo ). In addition, she reveals in her part that she has undergone a Brazilian butt lift and raps, in contrast, watch your videos and ask me: Which of us is plastic, eh? , which positions itself against the constant statement of its critics that it is only made of plastic. Arrest warrant otherwise shares with lines like Your music makes me feel sick - catastrophic or stick your Rolex in your ass, it's just made of steel . The reference to the title of the track can be found in the hook: Haftbefehl raps Fuck Arnold - I'm Conan the barbarian . With Arnold is probably meant Arnold Schwarzenegger , while Conan the barbarian stands for the character from the 80s film of the same name , which was played by Schwarzenegger. The Xenia in the title is probably based on the series Xena - The Warrior Princess .
Creation and publication
A first audio sample of the song was posted on Instagram in August 2019 under the name Conan the Barbarian . Since he had marked the rapper Manuellsen in this video , the fans assumed a collaboration with him. On May 3, 2020, however, first Shirin David, and then arrest warrant, officially announced the single on her Instagram channels. Shirin announced that the request for the collaboration had also been brought to her in August 2019 and that her rap part had also been created at that time, i.e. before the release of her debut album . The single cover shows arrest warrant and David in front of a scrapped red Ferrari, while arrest warrant has been distorted by editing software. The single was released as the third release of his album The White Album on the night of May 7th to 8th, 2020 with an accompanying music video on the Azzlackz YouTube channel .
Music video
The music video for Conan x Xenia was directed by Chehad Abdallah. In the opening scene you first see a vacuum cleaner sucking up individual teeth, Shirin David shooting with a machine gun and David's hand typing in the number sequence 069 - the Frankfurt area code - into a telephone. Then, in various alternating scenes, it shows the rapper arrest warrant dressed in sunglasses and a fur coat, a servant at the table and several judges wearing red or black robes with white monsters and allonge wigs. Arrest warrant raps at a set table, on sheets of paper scattered on the floor and in front of a scrapped Ferrari, other scenes however show him playing the piano or hitting the piano to match the music. In various inserts you can see the judges first speaking from books, then covering their right eye and, towards the end, standing in a circle around a guillotine in psychedelically distorted images. Before the beginning of the second verse, a stretch limousine with a machine gun is shown on the roof, from which David then gets out. The limousine has been technically reworked so that it appears to be extremely long, which pays homage to the music video for Window Licker by the Irish-British DJ Aphex Twin , as his logo can also be seen on the limousine. David can then be seen standing in front of the open trunk of the limousine, which is filled with money, rapping and putting some money into a toilet. Shortly afterwards she shows the video as part of a painting in which she, in an evening dress and gold jewelry, appears to be standing in a kind of garden and is being viewed by a little girl. From this setting she then throws plates on the floor, which the girl then additionally tramples on. She can then be seen lighting a cigar on a burning banknote and shooting with a machine gun. Afterwards you mainly see the arrest warrant, which is sometimes accompanied by David, who then wears a warrior outfit.
criticism
After the actual announcement of the single, Haftbefehl received a lot of negative criticism for selecting David as a feature, and many fans were disappointed. However, Conan x Xenia received mostly positive feedback after the release. Many were surprised at how well Shirin David fits into the song and also praised the performance of the arrest warrant. Nevertheless, some people were still disappointed and felt it was their duty to boycott the song "on principle". Both David and Haftbefehl received positive reviews for their performance in terms of text and intonation. The music video also got a lot of positive comments. Charts and chart placements
Conan x Xenia reached number four in the German single charts . For Shirin David it is the tenth top 10 and chart success in the German charts. Arrest warrant reached the charts in Germany for the twelfth time. With Conan x Xenia , Haftbefehl reached a new record in the German single charts, to date, his highest rating was 20th with the single Bolon , which was also released in 2020.
