Nhi Le (2019)

Nhi Le (* 1995 in Thuringia ) is a German journalist , speaker , presenter and author .

Life

After graduating from high school, Le studied communication and media studies at the University of Leipzig and a double master’s degree in Global Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Leipzig and Ohio University . In her master's degree she was a DAAD scholarship holder . Her parents come from Vietnam and emigrated to the former GDR . Le lives and works in Leipzig.

poetry slam

From 2013 to 2017, Le successfully participated in poetry slams with mostly prosaic texts . In 2013 she won the Thuringian U20 state championship and in 2013 and 2014 she was a junior winner of the Karl Marx Poesie Prize. In 2014 she founded the Sprachaktiv U20 Poetry Slam in Leipzig together with Leonie Warnke and thus the first U20 poetry slam in East Germany. In 2016 an offshoot of the event series followed in Dresden . There she also appeared regularly as a moderator.

Journalist

Nhi Le (2017)

Le worked from 2017 to 2018 as a presenter for the funk format Jäger & Collector . The video “Hauptsache Sexy” based on her bachelor thesis was awarded the Juliane Bartel Prize . Le then spoke in various youth media and in the NDR program Panorama - The Show on the subject of sexism and also acted as a sidekick in a clip with Michel Abdollahi . Together with Johannes Filous, she wrote and moderated "crazy - the video podcast about society and politics in Saxony" for the street twittering project, which won the Grimme Online Award . In addition, she wrote columns and articles for Couragiert-Magazin, Blonde Magazine, taz , übermedien , Zeit Campus , the Heinrich Böll Foundation and worked on contributions for Deutschlandfunk , Deutschlandfunk Kultur and Deutschlandfunk Nova .

In the wake of the corona pandemic , Le pointed out the increasing racism against Asians. A tweet on the topic led to her being blocked on Twitter and sparked a discussion about the abuse of the NetzDG . Le is currently writing a bi-weekly column entitled "The Female Gaze".

Speaker

As a speaker , Le gives lectures and discusses on panels , mostly on the topics of feminism , racism and media culture . She gave speeches and lectures for, among others, the University of Leipzig, re: publica , tincon, Disney , Filmkunstmesse Leipzig , University of Rostock , Association of German Magazine Publishers , German Trade Union Federation , Institute for Protest and Movement Research , German Association of Journalists and at Stanford University .

moderator

Le is currently active as a presenter for various journalistic formats or cultural events. She has already presented at the Sarajevo Film Festival , for the youth press in Germany and Amnesty International .
