Ninasi

Ninasi is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Lohusuu ( Lohusuu vald ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .
Description and history
The village has 34 inhabitants (as of January 4, 2010). It is located on the northwestern bank of Lake Peipus ( Peipsi järv ).
The place was first mentioned in 1599 under the name Noss .
Post office
Ninasi is located on the postal route from Saint Petersburg via Narva and Tartu to Riga, which opened in 1714 . The Russian authorities set up post offices at a distance of 20 to 25 werst .
The Ninasi post office was in operation from 1772 to 1877. The white stone building that has been preserved to this day was erected as a type project and dates from 1824. The post office was used to change horses and take care of travelers. The coachman's rooms were in the basement , the travelers' waiting rooms and the dining room on the ground floor. The guests included Tsarina Catherine II , Honoré de Balzac (1843), Robert Schumann , Elias Lönnrot and Franz Liszt .
From 1892 to 1916 the building housed a sanatorium with eighty places for leprosy sufferers. Then the house was empty. From 1919 to 1966 the house served as a primary school.
The building is currently being renovated. It is slated to reopen as a guest house in 2013.
