The Ninety Mile Beach is a long-drawn, sandy spit that the Gippsland Lakes in Gippsland in southeastern Victoria (Australia) from the Bass Strait divides.

The beach is just over 150 km (90 mls.) Long and stretches from Port Albert in a north-easterly direction to the man-made canal The Entrance at Lakes Entrance . The west end of the beach is more than 250 miles east of Melbourne and is via the South Gippsland Highway and the coastal towns of Woodside , Seaspray , Golden Beach and Loch Sport .

The beach consists of long sand dunes that separate the various lakes and lagoons from the sea. In the north-eastern part it runs along a sand barrier on a series of sandbanks, behind which there are large lakes and various small lagoons. The three largest lakes are Lake King , Lake Victoria, and Lake Wellington . The Lakes National Park comprises the northeastern part of Ninety Mile Beach, while the southwestern part of the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park. On the spit there is a white sandy beach with strong surf and natural bush vegetation.

The length of the beach ensures that the waves break too close to the beach for good surfing conditions and that there are strong back and cross currents that make being in the water dangerous for inexperienced swimmers. Authorities only recommend swimming at Woodside and Sea Spray, where lifeguards are on duty during the summer months .

On Ninety Mile Beach there is a simple campsite in Emu Bay , as well as accommodation options in Seaspray and Lakes Entrance.

Rotamah Island - part of Lakes National Park - has a large bird watching station and can be reached from Paynesville by a 6 km boat ride.

Ninety Mile Beach is said to be the third longest uninterrupted beach in the world after Praia do Cassino on the Brazilian south coast and Padre Island on the Gulf of Mexico in the USA .
