The South Gippsland Highway is a trunk road in the south of the Australian state of Victoria . It connects the Princes Highway in Dandenong with the same street in Sale .
course
The South Gippsland Highway branches off in Dandenong from the Princes Highway (ALT-1) to the southeast. Initially it does not have a number (according to some sources it also has State Road 180 (S180) to the Westernport Highway), but becomes State Road 12 (S12) at the intersection with Greens Road . On Pound Road it loses this number and is again unnumbered until the junction with the Westernport Highway (M780). From there it receives the number M420 and continues its way south-east to the Western Port and along its north-east coast. In this area, the road has four lanes and a median.
Approx. 3 km south of Lang Lang it continues its way to the southeast as A440, while the Bass Highway (A420) continues south, along the east coast of the Western Port. The South Gippsland Highway is still four lanes, but without a median. Via Korumburra and Leongatha , where the Bass Highway / Strzelecki Highway (B460) crosses, it continues to Foster am Corner Inland , from where the Wilsons Promontory and its national park can be reached. At Foster, the South Gippsland Highway turns east and leads to Alberton , where it turns north and soon after reaches Yarram .
Shortly after Yarram the Hyland Highway joins from the north and the South Gippsland Highway continues its way to the northeast, parallel to the coast. It eventually ends in Sale, where it rejoins the Princes Highway.
