Ninja Theory (formerly: Just Add Monsters ) is a British video game development studio founded in March 2000, based in Cambridge . Ninja Theory has been a subsidiary of Microsoft since June 2018 .

The company was founded under the name Just Add Monsters in March 2000 by Tameem Antoniades, Nina Kristensen and Mike Ball. In October 2000, the British developer Argonaut Games took over the studio. In November 2004, Jez San, the former CEO of Argonaut Games, acquired the company from the bankruptcy estate of the parent company. The company has had its current name since then. The first game the company developed was Kung Fu Chaos for the Xbox in February 2003. In September 2007 Heavenly Sword was released for the PlayStation 3. The developers were nominated in five categories for the Develop Industry Excellence Awards: Best New IP, Visual Arts, Audio Accomplishment, Technical Innovation and Best Independent Developer.

On September 15, 2010, during the Tokyo Game Show at the Capcom press conference, it was announced that Ninja Theory would develop the latest installment in the Devil May Cry series . In September 2016 a department called Senua Studio was established. On June 10, 2018, during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018, it was announced that Ninja Theory had been acquired by Microsoft and is now part of Microsoft Studios (now known as Xbox Game Studios ).

Bleeding Edge will be the first Ninja Theory game to be released under Xbox Game Studios. It should appear for Windows and Xbox One. Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 will be released under Xbox Game Studios. Both games were already being planned before Microsoft's takeover. Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 will be released for Windows and the Xbox Series X.
