Niobium (IV) sulfide is a chemical compound of niobium from the group of sulfides . In addition to this, at least four other niobium sulfides (Nb 1 + x S, Nb 21 S 8 , Nb 1_x S, Nb 3 S 4 , Nb 1 + x S 2 with polytypes) are known. Many of them have areas of homogeneity or differ from one another as stacking variants of a basic grid type.

Niobium (IV) sulfide can be obtained by reacting niobium with sulfur at 700 to 1000 ° C.

Niobium (IV) sulfide is a black solid. It has a trigonal crystal structure with the space group R 3 m (space group no. 160) . It is superconducting below 6.3 K.
