Île de Guior (often named after the main town Niodior ) is an island in the Atlantic Ocean that belongs to Senegal and is located in the Delta du Saloum National Park .
Politically, Île de Guior belongs to the Niodor Arrondissement of the same name , which belongs to the Foundiougne department in the Fatick region of Senegal.
The island's vegetation is characterized by mangroves , palm trees and specimens of the African baobab tree .
The approximately 16,000 inhabitants of the island belong to one of the three major ethnic groups of Senegal, the Serer . The largest towns are the main town Niodior on the central west coast (5517 inhabitants) and Dionewar in the north (3953 inhabitants, as of 1997).
An important source of income is the traditional fishing with canoes . In addition, cockles and wild oysters collected and after Dakar and Kaolack , after Gambia and to the region Casamance sold.
