Nitty Kutchie (* 12. February 1970 as Andrew Reid in Westmoreland , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican dancehall - singjay . He is best known as a member of the former dancehall combo Scare Dem Crew .

biography

Andrew Reid was born in 1970 in a small town in Parish Westmoreland, Jamaica . His parents, Gloria Gordon and Oaney Reid, were simple farm workers. In his youth his parents separated and he moved with his mother, his older sister and his now deceased younger brother to the capital Kingston , in the district Seaview Gardens.

Nitty Kutchie already worked as Singjay as a teenager in various sound systems . However, he was discovered in the early 1990s by the Jamaican Deejay Bounty Killer, who promoted him strongly in his early days. After several recordings with various newcomers, the first song was released in 1993, called Georgie Porgie , in collaboration with Singjay Angel Doolas and Bounty Killer. The single was released on the Kingston 11 label. In early 1994, the second single, on the same label and with the same support, was released under the name Go Away . As a result, Doolas and Kutchie released the song Reggae Jam on the Jammy’s label without their mentor . During this time, Kutchie had a separate vocal part for every performance by Bounty Killer.

After Kutchie released the song Unconditional Love on the Imaj label together with the Deejay Determine , Bounty Killer was looking for four young, male, individual deejays for a dancehall formation. Nitty Kutchie got together with the Deejays Elephant Man , Harry Toddler and Boom Dandimite . The band's first name was Seaview Family . They chose the name because they all come from the Seaview Gardens district of Kingston. The first single was released in 1995 on the Jamaican label Ghetto Vibes and was called Fight War . The band soon became popular all over the Caribbean and after the great success of their mentor Bounty Killer's single Big Guns Scare Dem , they changed their name to Scare Dem Crew . During his time in the band, Nitty Kutchie also released his first single as a solo artist in 1997. The song, called Gal Scream , was released on the Main Street label. Further solo releases appeared a year later. He also sang about various riddims with other artists. After Elephant Man left the band after a dispute in 1999, the Scare Dem Crew was disbanded after two successful albums and several single releases. Then Kutchie devoted himself entirely to his solo career. After he was already known internationally through the Scare Dem Crew, the first single was released on a European label in 2001. The song Do Or Die was published by Bakchich from France. In 2005 the label Flava Squad Entertainment brought out the first album with Jah Deliver Me .
