Nizina Staropruska
The Nizina Staropruska is a geomorphological macro-region in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland and Kaliningrad in Russia . The area of the area in Poland is 2660 km².
etymology
The name goes back to the Baltic tribe of the Pruzzen , who populated the area of Prussia before the forced Christianization .
location
The Nizina Staropruska is located in the southwest part of the Baltic Ridge and is part of the East Baltic Coast , which in turn is part of the East Baltic-Belarusian Plain . The Masurian Lake District joins in the south and east and the Pobrzeże Gdańskie in the west . In the north lies the Pregel valley .

geology
The lowland consists of a moraine landscape. Characteristic of this landscape are glacial channels between the hills, created by the erosive effect of the meltwater when the glaciers melted , which later took up the lakes. Most of the lakes in the lowlands are silted up and form a swamp and peat landscape. The river valleys cut deep into the moraine landscape are characteristic of the area.

The highest moraines in the area are in Stablack ( 216 m ) in the west of the plain.

economy
Due to the lack of industry and the barren sandy soil, the region in Poland is considered to be economically weak. The economy is mainly focused on forestry, timber industry and services, especially tourism.
