No Devotion is a British alternative rock band from Wales , formed in 2014 .

history

After Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2013, among other things for possession of child and animal porn , as well as for sexual violence against children in several cases, it remained open for a long time how it would go with the band. The other musicians decided to break up Lostprophets and founded the new band called No Devotion in the middle of the year. For electric bass player Stuart Richardson, the future was unclear immediately after Watkins was arrested:

“We didn't know if we would ever make music again, if people could even look us in the face. It felt like it was all over for good. But we didn't know what else to do. We continued to write music. I didn't know if people would ever want to hear it, or if anyone would hear it at all. But I had to keep my head busy somehow. We just needed that. "

The musicians were able to win the former Thursday singer Geoff Rickly as singer . Rickly said that he was unsure at first, but he was so enthusiastic about the first demos that he finally agreed to join No Devotion. The band was promptly signed a record deal with Collect Records .

On July 12, 2014, the newly formed band's first single was released. This is called Stay and was released as a 12 "vinyl single. In Belarus , the single was able to reach the top position of the iTunes charts. Another single, Eyeshadow , was released in July. The first concerts took place between the 22nd and Held July 26, 2014 in Cardiff , Manchester , London and Glasgow .

In September 2014, the first concert tour through the United States and Canada began , which will last until October 28, 2014. The group plays some concerts as the opening act for Neon Trees , while the band acts as headliner at the other concerts on the tour. In addition, the release of the single 10,000 Summers as a vinyl single via Collect Records was announced for October 27, 2014 .

On September 25th, 2015 the debut album Permanence was released via Collect Records. On the day the album was released, the group was supposed to play a concert in Hamburg as part of the Reeperbahn Festival . However, it became known that the band had to cancel the performance. As later became known, singer Geoff Rickly was poisoned and robbed before the concert. The poisoning resulted in Rickly having to be hospitalized. The festival appearance would have been part of a small European tour, which leads through Germany , France and the United Kingdom .

style

Rickly told the Guardian that he was influenced by the Cocteau Twins , The Jesus and Mary Chain , as well as the electro pop of the 1980s , among others . The musicians don't want to be declared as “lost prophets with a new singer”.
