Noel Appleby

Noel Appleby (born February 4, 1929 - May 2007 in New Zealand ) was a New Zealand actor .

Life

Appleby began his acting career as a performer in commercials. After minor roles, he became known to a wide audience in 1987 through his participation in Vincent Ward's fantasy film The Navigator . For the interpretation of the involuntary time traveler "Ulf" Appleby was named best supporting actor at the New Zealand Film and TV Awards in 1989. He also appeared in the Cheech Marin comedy Kangaroo Carlos , as a vampire hunter in the horror comedy My Grandfather is a Vampire with Al Lewis and as Bilbo Baggins cousin "Odo Stolzfuß" (in the movie "Everard Proudfoot") in Peter Jackson's fantasy blockbustersThe Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King based on JRR Tolkien's novel trilogy. Along with Paul Norell , Martyn Sanderson , Stephen Ure and Craig Parker, Appleby waspart of a group of 15 actors who, in the wake of the success of the trilogy, suedthe production company for a share in the profits through merchandising , but failed with the lawsuit.
