Noel von Grünigen comes from Schönried in the Canton of Bern and is the eldest of three sons of the former ski racer Michael von Grünigen . He learned to ski at the age of two. He graduated from high school in Gstaad with the Matura and then completed a three-year apprenticeship as a carpenter . As a 15-year-old, he took part in FIS races and national junior races from November 2010 . From the 2014/15 season he was part of the Swiss-Ski C-team . His first appearance in the European Cup was in February 2015, but there were no results for the time being. In contrast, he won two Swiss junior championship titles, in 2015 in combination and 2016 in slalom. He achieved his best result at the Junior World Championships in 2016 in Sochi with 6th place in the slalom.
In December 2016, von Grünigen finished in the points for the first time in the European Cup, and in the following month he achieved his first victory in an FIS race. He made his World Cup debut on November 15, 2018 in the Levi slalom , where he was unable to qualify for the second round. After a solid European Cup season, he took part in the Far East Cup in East Asia in February and March 2019 , where he won one race and achieved five other podium places. He used the significantly improved starting position on March 10, 2019 to win his first World Cup points when he finished 29th in the Kranjska Gora slalom .
