Nolana leptophylla is a perennial subshrub or annual plant that grows upright or prostrate, is branched, very woody and densely leafy. It is filled with simple glandular and non-glandular trichomes . The leaves are alternate and about 3 mm long. They are succulent , linearly elongated and can have a rolled-back leaf margin. The petioles are very short.

The flowers stand individually in the armpits or in spiral-shaped cymes . The flower stalks are 0.8 to 1.2 cm long. The calyx is about 5 mm long, bell-shaped and set with five unequal, upright and triangular teeth. The crown is 1 to 2.4 cm long and tubular-funnel-shaped. The stamens are unevenly shaped and divided into two longer and three shorter ones. The stamens are not widened at the base and are rarely hairy. The stylus is gyno-basic and as long as the shorter stamens. The scar is head-shaped.

The flower stalks are bent back on the fruit, the calyx is steady and enlarged. The fruits consist of three to five unevenly shaped partial fruits.
