David Haek
David Haek (born August 17, 1854 in Budapest ; † unknown), actually David Hatschek, was an Austro-Hungarian scientific and cultural history private scholar , journalist and translator of Jewish origin. He also published under the pseudonyms Hans Helling and Franz Helbing .
After studying science and chemistry , Haek first became factory director. After a few years he resigned from this position to devote himself entirely to literature . After an eventful wandering life that took him via Vienna (1882) to Leipzig (1889), he finally settled in Berlin. He wrote humorous works, poetry , cultural and moral history books, edited collections of quotations and anecdotes and translated from English, French, Hungarian and Flemish, among others writings by John Stuart Mill , Charles Darwin , Ernest Renan , Guy de Maupassant , Samuel Smiles , Henry Morton Stanley and Mark Twain .
