Nolina parryi is a species of the genus Nolina in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). English common names are "Parry's Nolina" and "Giant Nolina".

Nolina parryi is stem-forming with heights of 1 to 2 m. It sometimes forms rosettes in the upper half of the trunk. The variable, stiff, light green to blue colored leaves are 50 to 120 cm long and 20 to 40 mm wide. The leaf margins are serrated.

The inflorescence is 1.2 to 4 m high and 0.2 to 1.3 m wide with dense, irregularly arranged branches. The white to cream-colored flowers are 3 to 5 mm long and 2 to 2.5 mm wide. The flowering period extends from April to June.

The round capsule fruits , woody when ripe, are 9 to 15 mm long and wide. The light brown, egg-shaped to elongated seeds are 3 to 4 mm long and 2 to 3 mm wide.

Nolina parryi is frost hardy to minus 10 ° C.

Distribution and systematics

Nolina parryi is distributed in the US state of California at altitudes of 900 to 2100 m. It grows on stony or sandy slopes, in woodland and is associated with Yucca brevifolia , Yucca schidigera , Yucca baccata and various types of cacti.

Nolina parryi is a member of the Arborescentes Section . Exceptionally large specimens are found in the Mojave Desert . The huge inflorescences of the individuals in the Kingston Mountains are characteristic.

The first description was in 1879 by Sereno Watson .
