Noltea africana is a species in the family of the cross thorn plants (Rhamnaceae) and the only member of the genus Noltea . It is native to southern Africa.

description

Noltea africana are evergreen shrubs or small trees up to 4 meters high. Their leaves are alternate to one another and are colored differently on both sides.

The flowers are in axillary or terminal, few-flowered cymes in small panicles . The short flower cup is cup-shaped, at its lower part it is fused with the very thin disc . The ovary is semi-subordinate and triple.

Distribution and systematics

Species and genus were first described in 1828 by Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach . They can be found in southern Africa. Within the buckthorn family , Noltea africana is classified in the tribe Rhamneae .
