Nora Dean

Letetia Leonora McLean (born January 8, 1944 in Spanish Town - † September 29, 2016 ), better known as Nora Dean , was a Jamaican reggae and gospel singer who became famous for her hit Barbwire in 1970.

biography

She was born to Isolene Ricketts and David Dean.

Before her solo career, she was with the Soulettes (with Rita Marley ) and the Ebony Sisters . She made recordings for Lee "Scratch" Perry, including the single The Same Thing That You Gave to Daddy (1969). Dean had her first hit with Barbwire in 1970 , produced by Byron Smith based on You Don't Care from The Techniques .

She had another success with Night Food Reggae , and she also recorded Que Sera, Sera under the title Kay Sarah .

She married in the mid-1970s and then lived in New York City . In the 1980s she began to sing again, in the so-called Lovers Rock style. For her, the 1990s were associated with a concentration on gospel ; she released several albums.

In 2010, Dean moved to Connecticut , where she died on September 29, 2016 at the age of 72.
