Norbert Born (born June 5, 1962 in Lutherstadt Eisleben ) is a German SPD politician and one of three deputy state chairmen of his party in Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

After graduating from polytechnic high school, he began training as a metallurgist for production in 1978 in Eisleben. From 1983 to 1988 he studied metallurgy at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and graduated with a degree in metallurgy. From 1988 to 1990 Born was a research engineer in the Mansfeld Combine , then a sales representative in the metal sector. A year later he became a lecturer in adult education. In 1994 he started his own business as an insurance salesman. In 1998 he worked as an employee in Jens Bullerjahn's citizens' office . He is divorced and has two children.

Local politics

Norbert Born joined the SPD in 1993 and has been a member of the SPD district executive in Mansfelder Land since 1995. After the merger of the districts of Sangerhausen and Mansfelder Land , he became chairman of the district association Mansfeld-Südharz.

He has been a member of the Hergisdorf municipal council since 1990 , where he held the office of mayor from 1994 to 2015. In the years 2004 to 2007 he also sat as a member of the district council of the Mansfeld region. After the local election caused by the district reform, he became a member of the SPD district parliamentary group of the Mansfeld-Südharz district in 2007 .

State politics

From 2006 to 2016 Born was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt , in which he entered as a representative of the Hettstedt constituency via the state list of his party. He represented his parliamentary group in the committees for petitions and social affairs and also acted as spokesman for sports policy.

In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2016 , he ran as a direct candidate for the Eisleben constituency . Since the SPD lost 15 of its 26 seats in the election, Born missed re-entry via the state list. In the first vote, he was around four percentage points above the national result of his party.

At the following special state party conference of the SPD Saxony-Anhalt on April 2, 2016, he was elected as one of the three deputy state chairmen alongside Markus Bauer and Katja Pähle .

Political positions

Norbert Born's political focus is on sports, children, youth and education policy.

At the state level, he advocated the Sports Promotion Act that came into force on January 1, 2013. This supports sports clubs, district and city sports associations, state associations, sports facilities and sporting projects in Saxony-Anhalt. In addition, the regional sports association and the Olympic base receive institutional funding.

Born also endorsed the changes to the revised Child Promotion Act, which since August 1, 2013 provides children with a legal right to all-day education and care in day-care centers. In this context, the state of Saxony-Anhalt u. a. an additional 53 million euros for the improvement of childcare and financial relief for large families.
