Norbert H. Brockmeyer

Norbert Hermann Brockmeyer (born March 18, 1952 in Waltrop ) is a German medic. He is a specialist in skin and venereal diseases and conducts research on HIV and AIDS .

Life

Norbert H. Brockmeyer attended the Oer-Erckenschwick elementary school from 1958 to 1966 and then completed an apprenticeship as an electrician . From 1977 to 1983 he studied human medicine at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and received his doctorate in 1985 (“ Pharmacokinetics of the antiarrhythmic mexiletine alone or in combination with cimetidine or ranitidine ”). Since the 1980s he has been researching the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and treating sick people. From 1983 to 1998 he worked at the University Clinic Essen , since 1998 he has been researching at the Dermatological Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum , which he has been director of research and teaching since 2006.

From 1997 to 2007 Brockmeyer was President of the German AIDS Society (DAIG), and since 2002 Expert Consultant for HIV and AIDS at the World Health Organization (WHO). Since 2009 he has been head of the Center for Sexual Health at the University Dermatology Clinic in Bochum , spokesman for the Competence Network HIV / AIDS and since 2010 President of the German STI Society (DSTIG) .
