Norbert Meyer

Norbert Meyer (born May 20, 1954 in Nuremberg ) is a German botanist and vegetation expert . Its botanical author abbreviation is "N. MEY ”.

Career

Meyer is the son of construction foreman Wilhelm F. Meyer. After graduating from high school in 1973, he studied biology and chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg for teaching at grammar schools and graduated with the first state examination. In 1982 he passed the diploma in biology. Since then he has been working as a freelancer, since 1984 partner of an institute for vegetation science and landscape ecology.

Norbert Meyer has published important taxonomic papers on the critical genera Hieracium ( hawk herbs ) and Sorbus ( whitebeams ), and deals with the recording of endangered vascular plants and historical fruit varieties (focus: pome fruit ). He works with the floristic mapping of Bavaria, the association for the research of the flora of the Regnitz area , the Regensburg Botanical Society, the Bavarian Botanical Society and the project New Flora of Bavaria. He heads the Sorbus working group at the Society for Research into Flora in Germany.

Meyer is the curator of the herbarium of the Natural History Society of Nuremberg .

Is named after him Meyers whitebeam ( Sorbus meyeri S. HAMMEL & HAYNOLD) and the new Haw genus Normeyera Sennikov & KURTTO.
