Norbert Schmitt
Norbert Schmitt (born July 11, 1955 in Heppenheim (Bergstrasse) ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and member of the Hessian state parliament .
education and profession
After graduating from high school in 1976, Schmitt studied law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , graduating in 1986 with the second state examination in law.
politics
Schmitt's professional career began from 1987 to 1989 as a consultant to the mayor of Offenbach am Main, followed by a position from 1989 to 1991 as press spokesman for the Saarland Ministry of the Interior .
Schmitt has been a member of the SPD since 1973, where he was Juso state chairman for Hesse from 1987 to 1989 , and from 1991 to 1997 and from April 2003 to October 2003 state manager of the SPD Hesse. From October 2003 to February 2009 he was General Secretary of the SPD regional association .
From 1985 to 1993 and since 1995 he has been a member of the district council in the Bergstrasse district , from 1985 to 1999 municipal representative in Lautertal , from 2001 to 2003 city councilor in Heppenheim .
Schmitt has been a member of the Hessian state parliament since April 5, 1995. He was the deputy chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee from April 5, 1999 to April 4, 2003 and various committees. He is a member of the Budget Committee, Environment Committee and State Debt Committee.
In the state elections in Hesse in 2008 on January 27, 2008, Schmitt ran for the constituency Bergstrasse West as a direct candidate, but was subject to Alexander Bauer , the candidate of the CDU .
In the state elections in Hesse in 2013 , he ran again in the Bergstrasse I constituency. Here he lost again to Alexander Bauer. However, he succeeded in re-entering the state parliament via a list of the party.
