Alexander Bauer (born June 9, 1972 in Lampertheim ) is a Hessian politician ( CDU ) and has been a member of the Hessian state parliament since 2008 .

education and profession

In Bürstadt , Bauer attended the Schiller School from 1978 to 1982 and then the Starkenburg Gymnasium in Heppenheim . After graduating from high school in 1991, he studied at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1998 he finished his studies with the first state examination in the teaching post for grammar schools, for the subjects of Catholic religion and social studies .

He then worked for five years as a research assistant in the Catholic Theology department for the professorship of Exegesis and Hermeneutics of the New Testament. He started the educational preparatory service for teaching at grammar schools in 2004 at the Bensheim study seminar. His training school was the Liebfrauenschule Bensheim . In spring 2006 he passed his second state examination there.

From August 2006 to April 2008 he taught Catholic religion and politics & economics at the Liebfrauenschule in Bensheim as a teacher until he stopped this activity when he took up his state parliament mandate.

Bauer has been a member of the CDU since August 1993. Politically active as an assessor (1993–1997), as deputy party chairman (1997–2001) and as chairman of the CDU Bürstadt (2013 to 2019). Since 2008 he has been active on the district executive committee of the CDU Bergstrasse. In 2010 he was elected for the first time as deputy CDU district chairman. Bauer has been a city councilor in his hometown of Bürstadt since April 1997 and is active in numerous committees as a member of the CDU city council group. He has taken on managerial roles as deputy parliamentary group leader (1998–2001), as parliamentary group leader of the CDU city council group (2001–2013) or as deputy city councilor (since 2016). In 2017 he was awarded the honorary title of councilor by the city of Bürstadt for his 20 years of local political engagement . For one term (2011-2016) he was a member of the Bergstrasse district council. Since April 2008 he has been a member of the Hessian state parliament.

In the state election in Hesse in 2008 on January 27, 2008, he was elected to the Hessian state parliament as a direct candidate for constituency 54 , Bergstrasse West. He received 42.3% of the votes (24,616 votes). His opponent Norbert Schmitt got 37.0% (21,488 votes). In the early state elections in Hesse in 2009 , he was able to defend his constituency with 46 percent of the first votes. In the state elections in Hesse in 2013, he again won the direct mandate with 45.6 percent. In the state elections in 2018 , he was directly elected again in the constituency with 32.6%.

His political priorities are in the areas of domestic and security policy, the protection of the constitution and the promotion of sports. Since 2010 he has been the domestic political spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. Since then, he has headed the state committee for domestic policy of the CDU Hessen and has been a member of the federal committee for domestic policy of the CDU in Germany since 2016. Bauer has repeatedly spoken out in favor of a ban on veiling . He justified his position with the fact that full veiling would not fit into a free-democratic order .

He has been deputy chairman of the parliamentary group since 2019.
