Norbert Weis (born November 13, 1950 in Ommersheim , Saar-Pfalz-Kreis ) is a German Catholic priest and cathedral chapter of the Speyer diocese .

biography

Norbert Weis comes from an old Catholic family, from which the former Speyer Bishop Nikolaus von Weis also emerged . His direct great-uncle (brother of his grandfather) was the Bavarian chaplain Jakob Weis .

He attended high school at the Imperial Cathedral (Speyer), studied at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome and was ordained a priest there on October 10, 1975. After further studies and a doctorate in canon law (Dr. jur.can.), Weis returned to his home diocese and became chaplain in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in 1980 and in Ludwigshafen am Rhein in 1981 . In 1984 he became cathedral vicar in Speyer and diocesan judge. From October 1, 1986 to September 1, 1987, he was secretary to Bishop Anton Schlembach .

On April 25, 1990 he was elected to the Speyer Cathedral Chapter, on May 1, 1995 he was made official and deputy vicar general . From 1997 to 1999 Norbert Weis headed the beatification process of the Speyer priest Paul Josef Nardini as a postulator on a diocesan level . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him in 2006 for his services to the papal honorary prelate , with the address "Monsignore".

After the inauguration of the new Speyer Bishop Karl-Heinz Wiesemann , Norbert Weis took over the office of Vicar General of the Diocese of Speyer in 2008, but returned - as he wished - a year later to his post as Official and Deputy Vicar General. He gave up the latter office at the end of 2012, but remained official. In addition to this activity, he is the pastor of the sisters at the St. Magdalena Monastery (Speyer) and, as a regular celebrant, looks after the diocesan congregation of the Tridentine mass rite in the Neustadt collegiate church on the Weinstrasse .
