Norberto Doroteo Méndez (born January 5, 1923 in Buenos Aires , † June 22, 1998 ) was an Argentine football player (striker). He played 31 times for Argentina and won the Copa America three times in a row with his country . Together with the Brazilian Zizinho, he is still the record top scorer in this tournament.

Méndez played in his youth at Sportivo Metán, the same club as the great Guillermo Stábile . His real career began at Club Atlético Huracán in 1941. In 1947 he went to Club Racing Club de Avellaneda . Here he helped as a striker that his club won the championship in the Primera División Argentina , the first Argentine league, three times in a row in 1949, 1950 and 1951.

In 1954 Méndez went to Club Atlético Tigre , two years later he went back to Huracán and ended his career in 1958 at the age of 35.

Méndez referred to Huracán as his girlfriend, racing as his wife and la selección (the Argentine national team) as his passion.
