The North-South Expressway ( Vietnamese : Đường cao tốc Bắc - Nam ) is an expressway under construction in Vietnam , which will connect the cities of Hanoi and Cần Thơ .

The planned total length is 1,941 kilometers. The route passes through the provinces of Hanoi, Hà Nam , Nam Dinh , Ninh Binh , Thanh Hóa , Nghệ An , Ha Tinh , Quang Binh , Quang Tri , Thua Thien-Hue , Da Nang , Quang Nam , Quang Ngai , Binh Dinh , Phu Yên , Khánh Hòa , Ninh Thuận , Bình Thuận , Đồng Nai , Ho Chi Minh City , Long An , Tiền Giang , Vĩnh Long and Cần Thơ .

Some construction phases have already been completed. The completion of the entire route is planned for 2020. The total cost is estimated at approximately $ 18.5 billion. A high-speed railway line is also planned to run parallel to this road.
