The Norderney was hull number 5 of the Wangerooge class built at Schichau Unterweser in Bremerhaven , a series of 6 sea tugs of class 722.
The hull is built in Maier form with ice reinforcement ( Finnish ice class 1A ) and divided into eight watertight compartments. The superstructures are made of light metal. For equipment of the vessel include NBC , magnetic self-protection , fire-fighting monitors , workshops , a towing device and a 5- t - derrick .
The armament was a Bofors 40 mm L70 single mount on the forecastle . It was first cocooned and later expanded.

Federal Navy / German Navy
The Norderney was put into service on October 15, 1970 for the 2nd Supply Squadron and was on loan for the Kiel Naval Arsenal . After the first out of service on 30 January 1976, the ship in the Naval Arsenal Wilhelmshaven was launched . The initially planned conversion to a mine throwing and light boat took place on the sister ship Langeoog . With its decommissioning, the Norderney and the crew of the Langeoog were put back into service on February 7, 1977 for the 1st supply squadron (from 1997, the supply squadron). Home base was Olpenitz until the decommissioning on November 22, 2002.
Uruguayan Navy
Immediately after the decommissioning was 23 of the ship on 22 November 2002 in Kiel from the Uruguayan Navy as ROU Maldonado put into service and on 27 December 2002 in the presence of President Jorge Batlle Ibáñez as offshore - patrol boat (Buque de Patrulla Oceánica) for the support squadron (División Servicios de las Fuerzas de Mar) taken over.
