This was founded at the time by craftsmen, citizens and merchants from the city of Roßleben and the surrounding area and served the members to help them help themselves according to the principle of a cooperative .

From then on there were various mergers and fusions of peasant trade cooperatives, banks for agriculture and the food industry as well as commercial banks in the Thuringian districts of Nordhausen, Sömmerda and Kyffhäuserkreis, up to today's Nordthüringer Volksbank eG.

Since 1990 alone, Nordthüringer Volksbank eG has emerged from 15 individual mergers.

Among other things, the Raiffeisenbank and Warengenossenschaft Mackenrode, the Raiffeisenbank and Warengenossenschaft Nordhausen and the Volksbank Nordhausen merged to form Volks- und Raiffeisenbank Nordhausen eG in the Nordhausen district during this period.

At the same time, Raiffeisenbank and Handelsgenossenschaft Heldrungen eG and Volksbank Bad Frankenhausen eG merged to form Volksbank Kyffhäuser eG in the former Artern district (now Kyffhäuserkreis).

In the district of Sömmerda and the former district of Sondershausen (now Kyffhäuserkreis), the Raiffeisen bank and goods cooperative Sondershausen and Volksbank Sömmerda merged to form VR-Bank Sömmerda-Sondershausen, to which the Raiffeisen bank and goods cooperative Ebeleben and the Raiffeisen bank and goods cooperative Greußen were affiliated in 1995.

In 1999 Volksbank Kyffhäuser eG and Volks- und Raiffeisenbank Nordhausen eG merged to form Nordthüringer Volksbank eG.

In 2003 the VR-Bank Sömmerda-Sondershausen became part of the Nordthüringer Volksbank eG. Since then, the bank has been serving customers in the districts of Nordhausen, Sömmerda and Kyffhäuserkreis.
