Norma (first name)
Norma is a female given name . The origin of the name is partly interpreted as a female counterpart to Norman and would then mean "the woman from the north".
The name became known through Vincenzo Bellini's opera from 1831 , whose libretto is based on the drama Norma, ossia L'infanticidio by the French writer Alexandre Soumet (premiered in Paris in the same year).
