Norman Kerry (* 16th June 1894 in Rochester , New York as Arnold Kaiser ; † 12. January 1956 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

He was born to German parents as Arnold Kaiser in Rochester. With the beginning of the First World War he changed his unmistakably German name to Norman Kerry. He first appeared on screen in 1916, and one of his first films was a supporting role in Manhattan Madness by Allan Dwan . A year later he had his first leading role at the side of Mary Pickford in The Little Princess , a film by Marshall Neilan . He played two of his most famous roles to this day, directed by Rupert Julian, in Rummelplatz des Lebens and Das Phantom der Oper . He played romantic lovers in the Lon Chaney films The Hunchback of Notre Dame , The Phantom of the Opera and The Unknown

With the introduction of talkies, Kerry's career ended. He played in three more sound films, after which roles were not offered. At the beginning of the Second World War he enlisted in the Foreign Legion , but returned to the USA after the occupation of France. Norman Kerry died of liver disease in Los Angeles, California in 1956 and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery ( Culver City ) in Los Angeles County . Norman Kerry has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6724 Hollywood Blvd.
