Norsk Etterretningstjeneste (German: Norwegian Intelligence Service, English Norwegian Intelligence Service) is the military and civilian intelligence service of Norway . It is based at Lutvann in Oslo . Organizationally, it is affiliated with the Norwegian armed forces .

The Etterretningstjeneste is Norway's only foreign intelligence agency . It gathers information about the situation outside Norway and with its analyzes is intended to support the Norwegian government in making decisions about its foreign and security policy. One focus of the service is on electronic reconnaissance ( signals intelligence ).
The specific duties and powers are defined in the Norwegian Secret Service Act:
- Support for security alliances in which Norway is a party ( NATO )
- Assisting the Norwegian Armed Forces in international operations
- Analysis and defense of international terrorism
- Collection of information relating to supranational environmental problems
- Collection of information on weapons of mass destruction
- Destruction of facilities with which such weapons can be manufactured
- Supervision of contracts for international arms control
Stations
The service operates a number of military reconnaissance stations across the country. This also includes the reconnaissance ships Marjata and the predecessor of the same name .
- Hovedkvarteret . Headquarters in Lutvann near Oslo. Documentation and management.
- Forsvarets stasjon Fauske . The oldest station in the service, founded in 1952, mainly operates satellite reconnaissance.
- Forsvarets stasjon Andøya . Station near Andenes, Nordland , collects and analyzes maritime activities in the north and the Barents Sea . She worked with the 333 Maritime Reconnaissance Flyer Skvadronens. The US SOSUS system for locating enemy submarines was operated at the station.
- Forsvarets stasjon Vardø at Vårberget , Vardø, remote radar surveillance. The station has been active since the 1950s.
- Forsvarets stasjon Varanger Thomaselv in Vadsø, Finnmark . Control and direction finding station. The station has existed since 1951.
- Forsvarets stasjon Ringerike , Eggemoen, Ringerike. Satellite reconnaissance, founded in 2000. It has been operated unmanned since 2006.
