The Northwestern State University of Louisiana (including NSU or Northwestern State called) is a state university in Natchitoches in the US state of Louisiana . It was founded in 1884 as the Louisiana State Normal School and is now part of the University of Louisiana system . In 2005, 9,847 students were enrolled. In addition to the main campus in Natchitoches, there is a faculty of nursing in Shreveport and general locations in Leesville / Fort Polk and Alexandria. NSU was one of the first 6 universities to participate in the joint venture program (JOVE) launched by NASA .
