Norton Lewis Lichtenwalner

Norton Lewis Lichtenwalner (born June 1, 1889 in Allentown , Pennsylvania , †  May 3, 1960 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1931 and 1933 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Norton Lichtenwalner attended his homeland public schools including Allentown High School , which he graduated from in 1905. He then continued his education at Bethlehem Preparatory School and Lehigh University in Bethlehem . In 1908 he moved to New York City , where he worked in the banking industry until 1915. He then returned to Allentown and worked there as a furniture dealer between 1915 and 1922. He then sold cars until 1933. During the First World War he was a member of the United States Navy Reserve .

Politically, Lichtenwalner was a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1930 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Charles Joseph Esterly on March 4, 1931 . Since he was not confirmed in 1932, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1933 . This was shaped by the events of the global economic crisis.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Norton Lichtenwalner held a number of government offices in the state government of Pennsylvania until 1942. Among other things, he was director of the Pennsylvania National Emergency Council from 1935 to 1935 . In 1949 he was elected to Allentown City Council; In 1955 he was a treasurer in Lehigh County for a tenure . He died on May 3, 1960 in his birthplace Allentown, where he was also buried.
