Robert Gray Bushong

Robert Gray Bushong (born June 10, 1883 in Reading , Pennsylvania , †  April 6, 1951 ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1929 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Bushong was the grandson of Congressman Anthony Ellmaker Roberts (1803-1885). He attended the Phillips Academy in Andover ( Massachusetts ) and then studied until 1903 at Yale University . After a subsequent law degree at Columbia University in New York City and his admission as a lawyer in 1906, he began to work in Reading in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1908 and 1909 . From 1914 to 1915 he was a judge at the Guardianship Court in Berks County . In 1916 and 1924 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions .

In the 1926 congressional election , Bushong was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Charles Joseph Esterly on March 4, 1927 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1928, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1929 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Robert Bushong practiced law again. He died on April 6, 1951 in Reading, where he was also buried.
